A Brief History of SolarEdge
SolarEdge was founded in 2006 with a vision to revolutionise the solar industry through cutting-edge technology and a passion for sustainability. Over the past decade, SolarEdge has established itself as a global leader in PV inverters and power optimisers, with a commitment to excellence and innovation at the forefront of their operations.
What are SolarEdge HD Wave Inverter and Optimisers?
The SolarEdge HD Wave Inverter and Optimisers are designed to work together to maximise the energy output of your solar panels while maintaining superior dependability and safety. The inverter maximises power output by optimising the performance of each solar panel, while the optimisers optimise the energy output of each panel further. This results in up to 25% more power output compared to traditional string inverters.
This innovative combo comprises of:
1. SolarEdge HD Wave Inverter:

This high-performance inverter features a sleek, compact design that converts DC energy from your solar panels into smooth, steady AC power for your home or business. With a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm, the HD Wave Inverter optimizes power on a per-panel basis for maximum energy yield, in contrast to traditional string inverters that work at a set voltage level. This guarantees that the system will still achieve maximum performance, even in shaded or uneven conditions, leading to a notable increase in total energy output.
2. SolarEdge Optimisers:

These small, lightweight devices are connected to each solar panel and work in tandem with the inverter to maximise energy production. Through optimising the power output of each panel individually, Optimisers reduce the effects of shading, soiling, and panel mismatch, leading to higher energy production and longer system lifespan. Furthermore, Optimisers allow for the continuous monitoring of the performance of each individual panel, offering valuable information on the overall health and efficiency of the system.

Why need SolarEdge Optimisers?
A solar panel power optimizer is an essential component of any solar energy system, crafted to boost the efficiency and performance of each panel. Traditional systems connect panels in series, where the performance of the entire array can be degraded by a single underperforming panel. In contrast, power optimizers enable each panel to operate independently. This feature is particularly advantageous when panels are shaded, dirty, or oriented differently from others in the array.
Power optimizers are affixed to individual solar panels, where they convert the DC electricity produced into optimized voltage and current. This optimized DC power is then relayed to a central inverter, where it is converted into AC power for use in homes or for feeding back into the grid. By maintaining each panel at its optimal power point, power optimizers enhance energy yield and overall system efficiency.
SolarEdge Power Optimizers incorporate leading-edge technologies such as module-level optimization to prevent energy loss through clipping, and SafeDC™, which reduces DC voltage to a safe level during inverter or grid shutdowns. This significantly lowers the risk of electrical hazards during maintenance or emergency situations.
Cost Considerations and Inverter Replacement
The cost to replace a solar inverter varies depending on factors such as the brand, model, and installation complexity. SolarEdge inverters are known for their durability and reliability, with minimal maintenance requirements over their operational lifespan. While all electronic components have a finite lifespan, SolarEdge inverters are designed to provide reliable performance for decades, minimising the need for costly replacements. With proper maintenance and timely repairs, SolarEdge inverters can deliver exceptional value and return on investment for solar adopters, ensuring continuous energy generation and savings over the long term.
Optimising Solar Panel Performance
A common question among solar enthusiasts is whether optimisers are necessary for every solar panel. While SolarEdge optimisers offer significant benefits in terms of performance optimisation and monitoring capabilities, their inclusion is not mandatory for every installation. SolarEdge inverters can operate efficiently without optimisers, particularly in installations with minimal shading, uniform panel orientation, and optimal site conditions. However, for installations facing shading, mismatch, or uneven panel orientations, SolarEdge optimisers are highly recommended to maximise energy production, enhance system reliability, and ensure peak performance under all conditions.

If there is a site where a Fronius Symo Hybrid is AC-coupled to a Fronius Symo inverter, how would you do export limitation?
Using a Fronius Smart Meter it is possible to export limit on the Fronius Symo Hybrid but not on the Fronius Symo inverter because the Fronius Smart Meter will be connected to the Fronius Symo Hybrid inverter, which in turn cannot be daisy chained with the Fronius Symo inverter.

My customer has a 1.5kW system installed with a third party inverter brand. If he wants to upgrade the system with a Fronius Primo 5 kW inverter in addition to the existing system, where the DNSP requires 5kW export limit, can this be done by using a Fron
Yes, if your export limit is equal to or greater than the other inverter’s output capacity this can be done. Please note: The Fronius Smart Meter will not control the power output of the third-party inverter. For example: If the third-party inverter is 1.5 kW and Fronius inverter is 5 kW and there is only 5 kW allowed to export, then the export limitation value that can be set on the Fronius inverter is 5 kW.
