Important Update on the Solar Battery Loans Program
UPDATE 26/05/2025 (10:20AM): Solar Vic Battery Loan page has advised, "Solar Victoria is no longer taking applications for interest-free loans for the installation of a battery system."
UPDATE 23/05/2025: Solar Vic Communication to advise 30th June 2025 is the last date they will be accepting applications or if they are fully exhausted with 1,000 loans remaining.
The Victorian Government handed down their 2025/26 Budget on Tuesday, 20th May 2025 where they advised the Solar Victoria Interest Free loan of up to $8,800 will not continue beyond 30th June 2025.
This means if you want to take advantage of the interest free battery loans program, we suggest you apply for your loan as soon as possible.
About the solar battery loan
The Solar Homes Program is supporting Victorian households to install a solar battery, by providing an interest-free loan of up to $8,800.
The loan applies to all solar battery systems that meet safety and quality standards. The solar battery loan is not available to owners who already have an existing energy storage system.
The loan amount will be paid directly to your solar battery provider and will be deducted from the total cost of your solar battery system, with you paying the outstanding balance directly to your provider once installed. Pure Electric is an approved Solar Vic solar retailer.

Am I eligible for the solar battery loan?
The following criteria as provided by Solar Victoria:
- you are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed
- combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
- property is valued at under $3 million
- property address has not previously received a solar battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program
- solar panel system with an inverter capacity equal to or greater than 5kW is installed on the property, or will be installed with the solar battery
- property does not have an existing energy storage system
- energy storage solution proposed has a capacity of at least 6kWh and is listed on the Solar Vic battery product list
- pre-approval to connect a battery to the grid is organised from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP)
- owner/s agree to receive information from the DNSP about taking part in battery trials to maximise the value to household of having one.
Solar battery loan is not available to homes under construction.
Once you're confident that you and your property meet the eligibility criteria, you can start the application process.
Process for solar battery loan application and approval
- Review how your household uses energy and your battery budget
- Research product options and systems – read our Battery Buyers Guide
- Talk with an authorised solar retailer (Pure Electric is an authorised solar retailer)
- Make sure your retailer gets pre-approval to connect and export to the grid
- Ask for a written quote (your retailer will upload it into the Solar Victoria portal)
- Wait for our email confirming the quote has been uploaded
- Prove you are eligible – upload your paperwork into the portal
- Wait for Solar Vic to confirm you are eligible and ask you to start financial checks
- Complete a credit check
- Submit loan application with financial documents
- Wait for Solar Vic to confirm loan approval and send your QR code
- Install the solar system (within 120 days)
- Pay the difference to the retailer – the total cost minus the loan amount
- Start repaying the interest-free loan (monthly repayments over 4 years)
